Mindfulness Goals with Janice Furevick

In this episode, Carrie talks with Janice Furevick about how mindfulness is key in every aspect of her work and personal life. Starting as a psychiatric nurse and working with seniors, mental health, and addictions, her career is a culmination of her passion for helping others and her commitment to mindfulness. Janice introduces the Jon Kabat-Zinn’s definition of mindfulness: the awareness that arises from paying attention on purpose in the present moment, non-judgementally and unpacks the definition to help us steer away from autopilot and towards meaningful choices. The conversation also touches on our addiction to busyness and the intentional effort required to slow down, reflect, and process our lives. She discusses the triangle of awareness, including the importance of recognizing body sensations, and shares her unique expertise as a trained forest therapy guide and accelerated or rapid resolution therapist. For those new to mindfulness, she offers practical advice on how to begin and highlights the importance of self-compassion in the practice. Her personal journey has shown her the value of mindfulness in fostering self-kindness, especially for those who, like her, are hard on themselves.

Awareness and acceptance lead to choice, resulting in change.
